No Sexist Jokes
Dad had a staff member who lectured students at their training college. An older man who was a respected theologian and known for his jovial personality, was also one that offended unintentionally. Dad received an official compliant that this lecturer's jokes were sexist. Years ago people would have either laughed or just remained silent. Not these days! People who have been subjected to ridicule are finding their voice. Today, particularly those in leadership roles, cannot entertain telling jokes that belittles others. There is no place for it - either from the platform, on social media, in meetings, or in casual conversation. Dad called a special meeting with the lecturer. The man went in shaking in his boots. He wasn't sacked but was told to stop telling his so-called jokes. Dad told me about this and since then I have watched what I have said and have spoken to others when they have gone too far.
